The Los Angeles Dodgers have 10 potential free agents heading into this winter. Here is a look at who will be staying and leaving in my opinion:

Rod Barajas: 36-year old righty swinging catcher Rod Barajas played in 98 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 70 for 305 (.230 avg, .717 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 16 homers and 47 RBIs. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Jamey Carroll: 37-year old righty swinging infielder Jamey Carroll played in 146 games for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 131 of 452 (.290 avg, .706 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 0 homers, 17 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. A lot of teams wanted him at the trade deadline, so he won’t come cheap in 2012. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Aaron Miles: 34-year old switch-hitting infielder Aaron Miles played in 136 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 125 of 454 (.275 avg, .660 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 3 homers, 45 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. PREDICTION: STAYING

Casey Blake: 38-year old righty swinging 3B Casey Blake played in 63 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 51 of 202 (.252 avg, .713 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers, 26 RBIs and 1 stolen base. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Juan Rivera: 33-year old righty swinging LF Juan Rivera played in 62 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 60 for 219 (.274 avg, .740 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 5 homers, 46 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He played in 132 games overall for the Dodgers & Blue Jays and he was 120 of 466 (.258 avg, .701 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 11 homers, 74 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Hiroki Kuroda: 36-year old righty starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda pitched in 32 games (all starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 13-16 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He wants to stay where it’s warm, so the Dodgers will have a shot to bring him back in 2012. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Jon Garland: 32-year old righty starting pitcher Jon Garland pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 1-5 with a 4.33 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Jonathan Broxton: 27-year old righty reliever Jonathan Broxton pitched in 14 games (0 starts) for the Dodgers last year and he was 1-2 with 7 saves, a 5.68 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP. PREDICTION: LEAVING

Mike MacDougal: 34-year old righty reliever Mike MacDougal pitched in 69 games (0 starts) for the Dodgers last year and he was 3-1 with 1 save, a 2.05 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. PREDICTION: STAYING

Vicente Padilla: 34-year old righty reliever Vicente Padilla pitched in 9 games (0 starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 0-0 with 3 saves, a 4.15 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. PREDICTION: LEAVING

The Los Angeles Dodgers somehow finished over .500 in 2011

Kudos to rookie manager Don Mattingly as he somehow led the Dodgers to a 3rd place finish in the N.L. West despite suffering widespread injuries. They finished up with a 82-79 record, which had them 11.5 games behind the Diamondbacks. Here is a look at what really stood out to me about the Dodgers in 2011:

TEAM MVP: 27-year old righty swinging Matt Kemp should be the MVP in the N.L. Think of just how bad the Dodgers would have been without him in 2011! Kemp played in 161 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 195 for 602 (.324 avg, .986 OPS) with 115 runs scored, 39 homers, 126 RBIs and 40 stolen bases.

BEST PITCHER: 23-year old lefty starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw might just win the Cy Young Award in the N.L. He pitched in 33 games (all starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 21-5 with a 2.28 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. He only gave up 174 hits while whiffing 248 batters in his 233 1/3 innings last year. The best thing about Kershaw last year was his very improved control as he only walked 54 batters.

PLEASANT SURPRISE: The closers were pretty awful for the Dodgers in the first half of the season. But, then the Dodgers called up 25-year old righty reliever Javy Guerra and he took over the role with gusto. Guerra pitched in 47 games (0 starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 2-2 with 21 saves, a 2.31 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: 30-year old lefty reliever Hong-Chih Kuo had a lost season in 2011. He pitched in 40 games (0 starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP. Kuo only gave up 24 hits while whiffing 36 batters in only 27 innings, and that’s not too shabby. But Kuo also walked 23 batters and he gave up 4 homers!

The Los Angeles Dodgers buy out Casey Blake’s option for 2012

The Dodgers have opted to buy out 38-year old righty swinging 3B Casey Blake for $1.25 million bucks instead of exercising his option for 2012 valued at $6 million bucks. This was a no-brainer for the Dodgers as Blake just couldn’t stay healthy in 2011. He played in 63 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 51 for 202 (.252 avg, .713 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers, 26 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Blake played in 406 games in his four years with the Dodgers and he was 366 for 1,407 (.260 avg, .768 OPS) with 197 runs scored, 49 homers, 192 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. The trade that the Dodgers made on July 26th, 2008 to acquire Blake will likely haunt them for years as they gave up switch-hitting catcher Carlos Santana to get him.

The Los Angeles Dodgers turn down the 2012 option on Jon Garland

The Dodgers have turned down 32-year old righty starting pitcher Jon Garland’s option for the 2012 season valued at $8 million bucks. This was a very easy choice for the Dodgers as Garland is still recovering from right rotator cuff surgery. Garland pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He pitched in 15 games (all starts) in his two years with the Dodgers and he was 4-7 with a 3.64 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. The Dodgers should be o.k. without him.
