The Dodgers have recalled 24-year old lefty swinging rookie outfielder Xavier Paul from AAA to replace Manny Ramirez on the active roster. Paul was the #16 ranked prospect in the Dodgers’ organization coming into this season according to Baseball America. Paul played in 25 games in AAA so far this season and he was 33 for 96 (.344 avg, .927 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 2 homers, 14 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Paul will likely battle Juan Pierre for at bats while Ramirez is out of action.

Juan Pierre will likely get his big chance to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers

Juan Pierre will probably benefit the most due to Ramirez’ suspension. He has played in 21 games for the Dodgers so far this season and he is 11 for 31 (.355 avg, .781 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Pierre will bring speed to the Dodgers when he plays but he’s not much better on defense than Ramirez is and that’s saying something. That’s because of his noodle throwing arm. Still, not many players work harder than Juan Pierre so he deserves to play more than he has been.

The Los Angeles Dodgers need Andre Ethier to continue producing

Andre Ethier really finished strong last season after Manny Ramirez came over from the Red Sox. He kept up the good swinging so far this season but with the Dodgers without ManRam for the next 50 games they will need Ethier to keep up the good work with the bat. Ethier has played in 29 games for the Dodgers so far this season and he is 33 for 104 (.317 avg, .996 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 6 homers and 27 RBIs. If Ethier goes into a funk with Ramirez around then the Dodgers will likely have problems scoring runs.

Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers gets suspended by Major League Baseball

36-year old righty swinging LF Manny Ramirez has been suspended for the next 50 games due to a drug test that he failed. This will really hurt the Dodgers as ManRam made everyone in the lineup better. Now we know how he did it. Ramirez has played in 27 games for the Dodgers this season and he was 32 for 92 (.348 avg, 1.133 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 6 homers and 20 RBIs. Ramirez has played in 80 games in his career with the Dodgers and he is 106 for 279 (.380 avg) with 58 runs scored, 23 homers and 73 RBIs. This also could keep Manny Ramirez out of the Hall of Fame despite having numbers that would put him in it.
