The Dodgers have signed Chan Ho Park to a minor league contract. Park only pitched one game in the major leagues last season (for the Mets) and it didn’t go well. Park was the losing pitcher as he worked 4 innings and he allowed 6 hits, earned 7 earned runs, walked 2 batters and whiffed 4. This was a nice low risk move by the Dodgers who can just cut him in Spring Training if he doesn’t look good. Park has now pitched in 324 games (275 starts) and he is 113-88 with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.

Chin-Hui Tsao to leave the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent

Chin-Hui Tsao has refused a minor league assignment thus becoming a free agent. Tsao pitched in 21 games for the Dodgers last season and he was 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Tsao has talent but he never has stayed healthy so the Dodgers won’t miss him at all. Tsao has now pitched in 50 games (8 starts) in his major league career and he is 4-4 with 4 saves, a 5.40 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.

The Los Angeles Dodgers sign Joe Torre to a 3-year contract

The Dodgers have signed Joe Torre to a 3-year, $13 million dollar contract to manage the team. Torre has a career record of 2,067-1,770 (53.9%) and he has a career post-season record of 76-50 (60.3%). Torre managed the Yankees to the playoffs all 12 of his seasons in the Bronx and he went to the World Series six times…winning 4 of them. The big question with Torre is how will he handle not having the largest payroll in baseball to cover for strategy mistakes. Remember the manager has a lot more thinking to do in the National League. Torre was an awful manager before he got to the Bronx and all of his experience was in the National League. Torre has a career National League record of 894-1,003 (47.1%) and he was 0-3 in the post season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers decline Randy Wolf’s option for 2008

The Dodgers have declined their $9 million dollar option for 2008 on Randy Wolf. Wolf started 18 games for the Dodgers last season and he was 9-6 with a 4.73 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Wolf tossed 102.2 innings and he allowed 110 hits, walked 39 batters and whiffed 94. The Dodgers haven’t ruled out re-signing Wolf to a much smaller contract for 2008.
